These days it can feel like we’re living in the future with daily headlines about ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and more, but it can be difficult to know where to start. As internal communicators, we’re always looking for ways to improve our workflows, eliminate busy work, and maintain the most important part of communication: the human connection. Is that possible with AI? Let’s dive in.
One thing to remember is that when we say “Can we use AI for this?” we’re scratching the surface. It’s like saying, “can we use technology for this?” The answer is definitely “yes,” but let’s get clear on our desired outcomes. Here are a few questions to start:
You’re in luck. This is a task where most Large Language Models (LLMs) can really shine. Consider prompts that are detailed, specific and have plenty of context. For example:
“Write a podcast script about our upcoming employee event”
....will give an underwhelming response! Try adding more detail and more context to get a better output:
“We are hosting a trip to the pumpkin patch for our employees and their families. Write a podcast script that announces this event.”
This will give a big step forward, but if you don’t like the output, try swapping to a role-based prompt and provide even more context:
“You are the head of employee communications at a software company with X many employees. You're hosting a trip to the pumpkin patch for our employees and their families. Children’s ages range from 6 months to 10 years, and they love seeing the farm animals. You host a weekly podcast that includes relevant announcements for the team. Write a script for this exciting event that includes a clever title for the trip.”
Voila - you skip a blank canvas and can edit and build on these basic ideas.
You sure? The easiest option for most teams is to use a tool like NotebookLM from Google. Link to the various articles, outlines, documents, or webpages that you want the podcast to reference. Next? Literally click one button: “Generate” deep dive conversation. Ta-da – now you have 5-10mins of a shockingly human-sounding conversation.
This is where it gets interesting. There are lots of AI production studios out there, but we are partial to Wondercraft. We see clients start by uploading articles, links to a webpage or simply bulleted notes before asking for a script (EG - Create a 5 minute podcast script with an excited and casual tone that discusses the announcements on webpage X, Y, and Z.” So what’s the difference between a tool like this vs. NotebookLM? If you want to edit the audio of your podcast, you simply edit the text, like a word processor. Wondercraft re-generates the new audio, and you’re done. Looking for royalty free music? Want to upload your own voice? Have a multi-lingual employee base and you need versions in different languages? Yep, Wondercraft can do all of that.
We consistently see that the most successful internal podcasts have a regular release schedule - with highest engagement coming at a weekly release. But hey - we know your schedule is tight. Try theming your episodes: certain shows can be more personal interviews with you and an exec or a new employee, while others can be AI created and branded as such: “a robo-read!”
Your team doesn’t want to feel tricked by an AI podcast - be transparent about your usage! However, they can still benefit from listening to company updates during their commute, dog walk, or even folding laundry. These tools enable you to maintain a high content output while balancing your own workload.
We’re here to help. We don’t just deliver podcasts - we make internal communications that engage employees in remote and hybrid environments. We know what works, and we’re ready to help: strategizing, drafting, and of course providing the most accessible software to let your team securely listen via their favorite apps, like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube Music and more.
Interested in handing all that work off and leveraging AI? Yep. We’ll do it all.
